'Spider-Man, Spider-Man! Does whatever a spider can...'
Does he? Does he, really? Those of us who've collected Marvel Legends for a long time will remember that back in the day, when Toy Biz produced Marvel Legend figures (before Hasbro got the license), there was a line of 12" Marvel Legends-like figures known as Marvel Legends Icons. They were really great with fantastic sculpting and a ton of articulation like their 6" predecessor.
I don't think the 12" scale caught on because most people wanted to expand their 6" collection. Also, at the time the 12" scale market wasn't what it is today.
There are more 12" scale collectors today than there were in the early 2000's. I guess Icons were ahead of their time. But now that the 12" have been embraced, it was safe for Hasbro to hit the 12" market with their own Marvel Legends 12" scale.
Will this 12" version live up to the greatness of the multiple versions of the 6" Spidey's that Hasbro has been producing for years? Let's see.
Out the gate the first thing that I needed to know was that the articulation was there. I want this Spider-Man to pose and move like I see in the comics. For the most part he does.
He is missing a key articulation point in that he doesn't have a waist and that is sorely missed. He can still hold a great amount of poses.
The sculpt is a little on the softer side, so there isn't a lot of detailing as far as web-lines or musculature. It does have some clothing wrinkles and I like that he has the webshooters on the wrists.
The paint work is nice and I see very little issues. There are a few errors with some of the black lines and its being a 12" figure, it's more noticeable in this scale than in the 6" format. I also preferred it if the blue was a little lighter, but that's personal preference.
He does come with some great accessories. Two other heads and multiple hands. I can't think of anything else he could have come with (maybe some webbing) so what he comes with works.
Overall I really like this figure. It's cool for what he is and he has a ton of movement that makes him a fun figure to pose around. The accessories add to the value. Speaking of value, he retails at $50 which, at that price, I can't recommend him. That's way too high and at that price I'd expect a bit more ( for a figure that's worth the $50 tag for comparison, check out this review http://theactionfiguredojo.blogspot.com/2017/01/mezco-one12-collective-dark-knight.html). I was able to get Spidey at a little above half that price and he's worth it at that discounted rate.
